A bottleless water cooler might be one of is the most convenient type of water coolers available on the market. Just imagine, no more having to deal with purchasing new bottles every week like you do with a standard water cooler.

You also don’t have to load those heavy 3-5 gallon bottles on to the top of the water cooler (if you have a top loading water dispenser).

These things are great and solve a huge problem.

Before we start, our #1 pick is the Avalon Self-Cleaning Bottomless Water Cooler (Amazon link). We’ll go over the details later on in the article. Just know that it is our #1 pick for the best bottleless water cooler dispenser.

Reviews of The Best Bottleless Water Dispensers

Avalon Self Cleaning Bottleless Water Cooler

Avalon Self Cleaning Bottleless Water Dispenser

Alright, first up on our list, and our #1 recommendation, is the Avalon self-cleaning unit. You read that right, this unit cleans itself, which is why we love it.

Now, it does this cleaning by using ozone gas to sanitize and kill any bacteria found on the dispenser.

Keep that in mind, this unit will only sanitize the dispenser. It won’t clean the rubber tubing or the canister inside. However, this is still convenient because many people will often forget to clean the dispenser itself.

We know, it’s gross.

Fortunately, it’s not a big deal to forget with this systsem…

You should still clean it though.

Anyway, other than the self-cleaning feature it has a few other ones that we like a lot. It has three temperature settings, which makes it an effective replacement for a sink. You have room temperature water, cold water, and hot water.

What more do you need?

What more is there anyway? Ice?

Let’s not forget about the filtration. You have a standard activated carbon filter that removes the rust, chlorine, and sediment from the water. This makes your water smell and taste great.

Some more great features include the built in nightlight that make it super easy to find the dispenser when it’s dark. It also scares away monsters. Ok, it doesn’t do that.

You don’t even need to turn the lights on. We still recommend that though because stubbing your toe is painful.

One last thing, this has a child safety lock on the hot water dispenser. No risk for accidents. I mean, there is some risk. It’s just much less likely.

Pros

  • Self-cleaning makes it super sanitary.
  • Three temperature settings.
  • Nightlight makes finding this in the dark easy.
  • Lights that shine when the hot and cold water is at a good temperature.

Cons

  • More expensive than other units.

Best For Two Temperatures: Avalon Self Cleaning Bottleless Water Dispenser 2 Temperature

Avalaon 2 temp settings

Next on our list is another Avalon. These products really are the best on the market. They’re such a great company and always make the best products.

Ok.

Anyway, this unit is basically the same as the previously mentioned one. However, this has 2 temperature settings instead of one, which bumps it down a ranking on our list.

Granted, you can always mix the hot and cold water if you want room temperature water. That is kind of annoying though.

On the other hand, the lack of room temperature water increases the filter life. It does this because it gets less use.

Self-cleaning is nice as mentioned earlier. It’s just an o-zone type thing that sprays on the dispenser. This kills bacteria… but it won’t kill you.

There is even an indicator that light that shines when this cleaning process occurs. You know, just to let you know what is going on with your dispenser.

This also has the usual activated carbon filter. It should last you about 6 months, but this depends on how much water you use. Less water is generally used with these because they don’t have any room temperature available.

One last thing, this has the nightlight on it too. This is a feature that you find on most Avalon water dispensers. We here at Water Purification Hub really like this feature because it scares away monsters, but you can disable it if you want.

You might get monsters though.

thumbs-up-icon

Pros

  • Self-cleaning makes things much easier.
  • Activated carbon filter removes the stuff that makes water taste bad.
  • Nightlight.
  • Hot water is hot and cold water is cold.

Cons

  • No room temperature setting.

Longest Filter Life: Brio Commercial Grade Bottleless Filter Water Cooler

Looking for a bottle less water dispenser that has the longest filter life?

Of course you are. Everyone hates changing the filter on these things.

You don’t have to change bottles, but still. Changing that filter gets annoying. You get spoiled.

Fortunately, the Brio commercial grade dispenser has a long filter life to solve this problem. This system actually has a three stage filter.

Yes. You read that right. It’s a bottleless water dispenser with a three stage filter.

So, this isn’t exactly three different filters. It’s really just two pre-filters before the activated carbon filter. It doesn’t really matter though.

Basically, this works by filtering a bunch of big contaminants through the pre-filter, which has more filter media. This has the effect of reducing the amount of contaminants that get clogged in the activated carbon media. In total this filters out 68 different contaminants.

Not bad.

This unit also has hot, cold, and room temperature water. Very nice.

brio filters

One last thing. This has a stainless steel door. A much added upgrade to the typical plastic that you find a water dispenser.

This gives it a cyberpunk look. Well, about as much of cyberpunk look as a water cooler can have.

You can basically pull this thing out of the 1990s. Not the ugly white plastic 1990s either.

The good looking cyberpunk 1990s.

Think something like The Matrix or Kurt Cobain.

Ok, we’re getting off topic here.

thumbs-up-icon

Pros

  • Three Stage Filter means it lasts three times as long.
  • Hot, cold, and room temperature water.
  • Cold water is pretty cold.
  • Filter removes 68 different contaminants.
  • Stainless steel door.

Cons

  • A little short. Might have to bend down to get the water.

Fast Fill Rate: Aquaverse A3500

Aquverse A3500-K Hot Cold Bottleless

We did a full review of this system. Check it out by clicking here.

Something a lot of consumers forget about is how long it takes to fill up a cup of water. You want to be in and out as soon as possible when filling up your water.

This is especially important for an office because it means that employees will spend less time at the water cooler. I mean, employees will still spend time at the water cooler, but they will probably spend less time at the water cooler.

Your employees will hate this water dispenser. I guarantee it.

This is why you’ll love it.

The Aquaverse A3500 is extremely quick. You can fill up a 16 ounce container of bottle in 8 seconds. That is fast. Now, this number will vary depending on the water pressure on your water line.

This just assumes ideal conditions. Either way it is still very good.

This water dispenser has more going for it than just that though. It has an activated carbon filter that will remove a bunch of different contaminants that make water taste and smell bad. Not to mention that it has dual float technology that decreases the likelihood of any flooding.

Finally, it’s a nice deep black color that looks great. Not as good as stainless, but much better than plain white. I’ll give this a solid 4/5 on the looks scale for a bottleless water dispenser. Looks are super important.

Never underestimate the impact a good looking water cooler has on the bottom line of your company.

thumbs-up-icon

Pros

  • Very fast water dispensing. 16 ounces in under 8 seconds!
  • Activated carbon filter removes chlorine.
  • Black plastic looks good.
  • Dual float technology to prevent flooding.
  • Great price!

Cons

  • No room temperature water setting.

Best Bottleless Water Dispenser that Won’t Flood: Oasis POUD1SHS

Oasis POUD1SHS WHI Atlantis Bottleless Water Cooler

Looking for a safe bottleless water dispenser. Oasis is your best bet. They make good dispensers so don’t worry about that. You still get an excellent quality product with this unit.

This unit has a few interesting features that we really like.

First, it has a dual float system that helps prevent it from flooding. What often happens is that the water will just keep flowing and flood your office.

Remember, this is hooked up into the wall so if nothing is there to stop the water it will just keep flowing…

and flowing.

and flowing.

This can result in some nasty flooding.

Not an issue with the Oasis.

It also has a super convenient removable drip tray, which makes cleaning easy. In addition to that, it has a two piece hot water tank. This is something that is unique to Brio and it makes cleaning these units super easy.

Finally, it has a three year warranty. One of the best in the business.

We don’t like the white plastic. Seriously.

I’d never be caught with a white plastic water cooler in any office I manage.

We still recommend this because someone must like these white plastic water coolers.

thumbs-up-icon

Pros

  • Budget choice.
  • Three year warranty.
  • Dual float system to prevent flooding.
  • Two temperature setting.
  • Energy star certified.
thumbs-down-icon

Cons

  • The white plastic is kind of ugly.

Benefits of a Bottleless Water Cooler

Using a bottleless water cooler has a few big advantages. Well, really it has one main advantage.

You don’t have to deal with water bottles anymore. Trust me, these bottles are a pain in the butt to deal with every week. You have to call the delivery guy to drop them off at your office and then you have to put it on the cooler. It’s just annoying.

Sure, you can have an intern put it on top of the dispenser. You can also have a bottom loading cooler, but you still have to deal with the bottles.

Not to mention that you have the water sitting in plastic. The plastic is BPA-free, but plastic has been shown to have some negative effects on humans. Best to avoid storing water in plastic whenever possible.

Installing a Bottleless Water Cooler

Now the fun part. Installing one of these systems in your home or office. This is a little bit more complicated than a regular water cooler. You can’t just roll it into your office on a dolly and start drinking. It does require some plumbing work. It’s worth it though.

Anyway, it’s not too hard. Just get some basic plumbing tools:

Tools Required:

  • Crescent wrench
  • Multi-end screwdriver

Installation Directions:

  • Find a suitable location that has a cold water pipe (You might have to go through a wall for this step)
  • Turn off the water to that pipe.
  • Screw the bracket into the pipe.
  • Use the wrench to tighten the bolt on the bracket.
  • You want the bracket to compress the rubber gasket to the pipe. This is the seal that prevents leaking.
  • Turn the valve until it pierces the copper pipe and creates a hole in the pipe.
  • Put the nut on the plastic tubing.
  • Put the metal sleeve into the tubing.
  • Attach the tube (with metal sleeve) into the tubing.
  • You can now tighten this.
  • Don’t overtighten this. You can break the plastic.
  • Attach the other end of the tubing into the dispenser.
  • Finished 🙂

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will this flood?

Flooding is always a possibility. However, these systems use a system called a dual float that prevents flooding. Basically, once the water starts filling up too much the water will automatically shutoff.

You may have a water line break, but that can occur with any plastic tubing that connects to an appliance (refrigerator, ice maker).

In general, flooding is not too big of a concern with a bottleless water cooler.

Do they make a lot of noise?

Loud is a very subjective term. However, these do have a cooling and heating unit. The cooling unit might be loud, but nothing too bad. It should be about as loud as a refrigerator for reference.

Do these filter water?

Yes. They all have an activated carbon filter that removes chlorine and sediment.

Does a bottleless water dispenser remove fluoride?

No. They use an activated carbon filter, which does not remove fluoride.

Final Verdict

We personally recommend the Avalon Self-Cleaning Bottomless Water Cooler (Amazon link). It’s self cleaning. It looks great. You also get plenty of filtration with this unit. Not to mention you get the reassurance that you get with an Avalon product.
