Are you planning on purchasing a Nutriteam Megahome countertop water distiller? You should read this review before making your purchase.
This isn’t just another review. No, we will cover absolutely everything that you need to know about this water filter including the features that we like, the features we don’t like and frequently asked questions about this distiller.
We’ll also give our final verdict on this system at the end.
What We Like
Once again, this system has lots to like. We’ll just list everything we like in bullet points.
- Looks great.
The stainless steel combined with the black plastic top makes it fit right in to any kitchen. This looks much better than the white plastic housings that many of the lower price water distillers use.
+1 for looking great Nutriteam.
- Small Size
We like the small size and how easy it is to fit on a counter. It’s about the size of a coffee maker. Maybe a little narrower than a normal coffee maker, but a little taller too.
- It removes almost evertything.
Well, it’s a water distiller, so it removes just about everything. Sediment, hard metals, minerals, microorganisms, fluoride, and more.
Yes. It removes fluoride.
- Glass, not plastic
Petrochemicals used in the production of glass always scare us. We like that they use glass because that makes it that much more safe to use. The only plastic that water ever touches is the spigot.
- Extra Carbon Filter
The carbon filter is nice because it removes any potential bad taste that somehow makes it through. Honestly, not sure if this is entirely necessary, but I like it.
- Automatic Shutoff
This system has an automatic shutoff, which is something that we really like. You don’t run the risk of the heating coils staying on all day and basically ruining the entire
What We Don’t Like
The Megahome has a lot to offer, but it does have a few glaring weaknesses that we really don’t like.
Our main issue is that this system does not have an on/off switch. The heating coil is powered until the system runs out of water. Now, an on/off switch isn’t really a thing with a water distiller. However, the automatic shutoff is annoying because it reduces the system life.
This is because the system basically runs until the fuse trips, which leads to unnecessary stress on the electronics. You can avoid this by pulling the plug when the system finishes, but this is somewhat difficult to track.
Fortunately, the system will still work for a number of years even using it in the recommended manner.
Our other issue is the length of time, 4-5 hours, it takes to one gallon of water. That is a lot of time for one gallon of water. I know, distilling water is a time intensive process. It’s just something to keep in mind if you have a few people in your home.
One gallon of water for one person is fine. However, one gallon of water for multiple people will not work.
Other than those two issues we like everything about the Nutriteam Megahome. Just keep those two issues in mind before purchasing this system.
Despite the two issues we still approve this product. Again, just remember that this system does not have an on/off switch and this could lower the life of the system. Most people probably will not consider this to be a major issue.
The bigger is the amount of time it takes to make one gallon of water. If you have a large household, then you would be better off finding a different system or supplementing this with water that you purchase at the store. You can also make distilled water and store it in glass containers for later use.
Anyway, the good with this product still outweighs the bad. That is why we recommend it. It is especially good for people that live alone or with one other person. Or for homes that use a low amount of distilled water per day.
